The katana, or the Japanese long sword, refers to a specific type of curved, single-edged sword traditionally used by the Japanese samurai. The weapon was typically worn by members of the buke warrior class paired with the wakizashi, or short sword. The two weapons together were called the daisho, and represented the social power and personal honor of the samurai.
Tanto is a Japanese blade or small sword- a smaller version of the Katana. Tanto are often interchangeable with Wakizashi, and were preferred on the battlefield due to the fact that they were smaller and got in the way of battle much less. Their use was similar, and they were a samurai's sidearm.Tanto are forged generally in hira-zukuri, meaning that they have no ridge-line, unlike the shinogi-zukuri shape of a katana. They are generally very thin and therefore would cut soft targets very, very well.
This set is a must have for any collector as it pays a tribute to a deadly assassin O-Ren (Kill Bill, Vol.1) who unlike her former compatriots, did not retired from the Deadly Assassin's team - she moved on to bigger ballgames by becoming the leader of the crime bosses of the Tokyo underworld. Well, that is until Black Mamba sliced her brain open with a Hanzo sword...
The magnificent hardwood saya (the scabbard), featuring hand painted gold Japanese symbols and a matching wooden handguard piece with a gold Y (logo of "Yakuza Samurai Swords") of each sword are intricately designed as individual works of art. Both the sayas and the handguards are painted black with a reinforced shiny lacquer. These are sharpened stainless steel swords designed with simpler wood finish to highlight the curves and the beauty of the blades.
The set includes a black hardwood display stand designed to hold three swords.
This beautiful set contains a katana (40 1/2"), wakizashi (32"), and a Tanto (21").
